The Taj Mahal, Mehtab Bagh (Moonlight Garden), Dashashwamedh Ghat, Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Tomb of I’timad-ud-Daulah, and Ayodhya (Lord Ram Temple) among the main attractions in Uttar Pradesh.

Taj Mahotsav is an annual festival sponsored by Uttar Pradesh Tourism in the gorgeous city of Agra that runs from February 18th to February 27th each year. It takes place in Shilpgram, near the majestic Taj Mahal’s Eastern Gate, and the project began in 1992.

The festival aims to recognise and promote the city’s cultural legacy. Every year, hundreds of local craftsmen join the Taj Mahotsav to showcase their work, since it is an excellent opportunity for craft enthusiasts to discover talented artists and purchase for wonderful handicrafts.

The cave paintings of Sonbhadra and Chitrakoot are documentation of life back then. The images depict stories of battle, survival, triumph, and tragedy. Over time, this painting culture continued to change. The ones in Mathura, Gokul, and Vrindavan narrate stories about the early and teenage years of Lord Krishna. What a wonderful technique to preserve stories so they can be relayed graphically to future generations!

It is also praised for its long-living artistry that includes stone-craft, pottery, Chikankari, glassware, Zari embroidery, textile printing as well as carpet weaving, hand printing. Banarasi silk sarees are famous across the country. 

Chikankari is one of the most well-known crafts in Uttar Pradesh. It is the art of utilising hand embroidery to create intricate designs on fabric. These patterns are well-known for their intricate and gorgeous motifs that captivate audiences. Lucknow is famous throughout the country for its chikan sarees, suits, and kurtas. Zardozi is another popular Varanasi craft. Zardosi embroidery is often finished in three dimensions.

Uttar Pradesh is known as the Land of Art. The state’s music history has expanded steadily since sages began singing hymns. In the mediaeval era, two separate genres of music emerged: court music and bhakti religion. These branches grew and thrived in diverse areas throughout the state.

Over the years, Uttar Pradesh’s contribution to Hindustani music has been extensively known and appreciated. Kathak, one of India’s major classical dance genres, is reported to have flourished in Uttar Pradesh. Rasiya, Charkula, and Braj Raslila are other renowned Uttar Pradesh dance genres.

The history of Uttar Pradesh goes back to 4000 years. This is the land which is said to have been the foreground for Hindu epics like Mahabharata and Ramayana. Under British administration, the kingdom was referred to as the Northern Western Provinces of Agra and Oudh.

The acronym UP became popular after it was renamed the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh in 1902. However, it was only after India’s independence that the state was granted the name Uttar Pradesh, which preserved the acronym UP.

Uttar Pradesh offers an interesting combination of landscape. While the Himalayan foothills can be found in the north, the central region is covered in Gangetic plains. Many rivers, including the Ganga, Yamuna, Sarayu, Hindon, and Gomti, flow through the cities of Uttar Pradesh.

Tourism in Uttar Pradesh is built on a variety of interests; although visitors from all over the world visit the exquisite Taj Mahal, religious tourists travel to Varanasi for pilgrimage. Those interested in history and culture can visit Mathura, Ayodhya, and Lucknow, among other locations. Even in terms of food, several cities in Uttar Pradesh are well-known for their world-renowned cuisines.
